Coordination Is Nurture: Unlock Balance and Momentum
Coordination Is Nurture, Not Nature.
Yesterday, I had an eye-opening experience that shifted my perspective on coordination, balance, and momentum. For years, I’ve labeled myself as “uncoordinated”—a belief that felt unshakable. But during a session with June Cales, a martial artist with an incredible talent for teaching muscle activation and mindfulness, I realized how untrue that belief was.
We started with something simple but challenging: my non-dominant skate stance. If you’ve ever tried standing or moving in a way that feels completely unnatural, you’ll know what I mean. My body wobbled, my mind raced, and I felt utterly unstable.
But then, June introduced me to the concept of mindful muscle activation. Instead of fighting the discomfort, I paused. I grounded myself in stillness, tuned into my body, and activated every muscle intentionally—mind, body, and breath working together.
What happened next was transformative. My non-dominant stance went from shaky to stable, foreign to familiar. It wasn’t just my body finding balance; it was my mind aligning with it.

The Insight: Coordination Is Emotional, Not Physical
We often say, “I’m not coordinated,” as if it’s a fixed trait. But that’s a myth. Coordination isn’t something you’re born with or without—it’s a skill you nurture.
Here’s the deeper truth: coordination isn’t just about muscle control. It’s about emotional balance. When our emotions are scattered or out of alignment, our bodies mirror that imbalance. Addressing the emotional roots of instability is the key to unlocking momentum—not just on a skateboard, but in life.
Through this experience, I’ve realized that the limits I once thought were physical were actually rooted in a lack of awareness. By bringing mindfulness to movement, I’ve started to rewrite the story I tell myself about my abilities.

Bringing This Insight to Others
This breakthrough has inspired me to share these techniques with others. Whether you’re a skater, an athlete, or someone just looking for better balance in life, mindful movement can create profound change.
Here’s what’s next:
• Fitness Programs for Skaters: Build strength, mindfulness, and balance through simple, transformative exercises.
• Workshops at the Skate Dojo: Hands-on training in muscle activation and focus techniques for all ages and skill levels.
• Community Sessions: Collaborations with like-minded individuals to explore movement, mindfulness, and wellness.
I’m passionate about creating spaces where people can experience their own breakthroughs. Whether you’re stepping onto a skateboard, into a yoga pose, or into the challenges of everyday life, these methods can help you find your center.
